Start Your Own Business Competition

Vantage Communications Ltd is proud to be part of Ugandan’s first ever national business plan competition, ‘the Start Your Business Competition’ a project of the Private Sector Foundation (PSFU).

With a total prize tags of US$500,000 (just below I Bn Uganda Shillings) worth of awards for the top 10 winners in terms of Capital investment in the successful winning business ideas, this year’s competition is the first of future annual national business plan competitions by PSFU. The goal of the competition is to support entrepreneurship development, and establishment of new enterprises by Ugandans.

The Competition launched today 7th Feb 2008, calls for unique business ideas from young people of the age between18-45 from all over Uganda who can speak and write in English. Built upon proven models of other business plan competitions and entrepreneurship mentoring around the world, the competition will follow a methodological process to ensure the businesses that participate not only win but survive and thrive beyond their first birthday.

The objective of ‘the Start Your Business Competition’ includes the following:
  • Build capacity of aspiring entrepreneurs
  • Create new businesses
  • Increase employment by raising awareness about entrepreneurship as alternative to conventional job
  • Spur entrepreneurial behavior with special attention to strategic thinking and planning cultures.
The launch program was attended by the cream of the business community in Uganda including renowned businessmen and women, CEO’s of the multinational banks in Uganda, partners and media. Over 150 stakeholders witnessed the unveiling of the Start your business Competition. First call for idea ends on 1st March 2008.

The project expected to run until Sept 2008 has so much to offer young budding businesses.
